To program the RM-VL900 Universal Remote please follow the
following:
1. Find the three digit code number for the desired component in
the following list.
2. Press S (set). All Component Select buttons flash.
3. Press the Component Select button for the desired component.
4. Press the number buttons to enter the three digit component code
number.
5. Press ENT.
The RM-VL900 remote is factory pre-set for Satellite and will not
accept cable box codes unless the component button is re-assigned. In
other words it is not a dual component button. This information is on
page 8 of the operating instructions; however, it is not completely clear
at that point what the steps are to change the component button for a
cable box.
To change the component refer to pages 32 and 33. The procedure is:
Press S (set) button - all component buttons will flash
Press CBL/SAT button - only this button will stay lit
Press the Play ( > ) button down and the number ( 9 is for cable
box ) of the component you
want to assign at the same time
The component button light will go off
Press ENT(enter)
At this time you must go back to the instructions on page 8 to
enter the correct three digit
code.
If you want to change the component button back to Satellite you
must repeat this procedure and enter the number 3 and then re-enter the
three digit brand code. If you have both satellite and cable box then
you will want to decide which other component button you wish to
re-assign.
To operate non-preset components or functions, use the following
"learning" procedure to "teach" any of the programmable buttons and keys
to operate the functions of another remote control.
NOTE: Some specific remote control signals may not be learned
* ex: To program the PLAY signal of your component to the VCR1 (PLAY)
key of the RM-VL900:
1. Place the remote head to head with your component's remote
control.
- Make sure that the remotes are approximately 2 to 4" away.
2. Press and hold S (set) for over 3 seconds. The S (set) indicator
lights up, and all
Component Select buttons flash.
3. Press the Component Select button for the component whose
signals are to be learned.
Both the S (set) indicator and the selected Component button light
up, and all other buttons
turn off.
If another signal has already been programmed on that Component
button, the Component button of the "learned" component remains flashing.
It says that way until you have changed the setting.
Example: If "CD" has been set to VCR, VCR lights up and CD flashes.
4. Press the button on the Commander you want to "teach"
Both the S (set) indicator and the Component button flash (Learning
function standby)
If another signal has already been "learned" by that button: The S
(set) indicator flashes twice, and the Commander returns to its state
in Step 3. Either "teach" to another free button, or clear the already
"learned" function and start over from the beginning.
5. Press and hold the button on the other remote control, until
both the S (set) indicator
and the Component button light up again.
During data transfer, only the S (set) indicator starts lit, and
the Component button turns off. After data transfer is complete, the
Commander returns to its state in Step 3.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to "teach" functions to other buttons.
To LEARN another components remote control signal, after
positioning the two remote commanders as in Step 1, press the corresponding
Component Select button, then follow steps 4 and 5 on the left to perform
learning.
7. Press S (set) to finish setting.
NOTE:
- If you do not perform learning steps within 20 seconds at any point
during the process, learning mode ends.
In some rare cases, you may not be able to operate your non-Sony
equipment with the supplied Remote Commander. This is because your
equipment may use a code that is not provided with this Remote Commander. In
this case, please use the equipment's own remote control unit.
